Eels, an endless journey – animated infographics

Eels infographic

The European eel is one of the most amazing animals we know, as it is able to carry out long migrations throughout his life. It is believed that all the eels that populate European rivers come from the Sargasso Sea, where they are born and to which they return at the end of their lifes to give rise to a new generation of eels.

However, although other aspects of the life are well known, there are not yet enough evidence to confirm that the Sargasso Sea is their only breeding ground for European eels. Due to the mystery that surrounds this species, we want to share this animated eels infographic based on the existing information about its the life cycle and migrations. Thanks for sharing!

The Sargasso is the presumptive spawning area. It is is difficult to reconcile the separation of the two species A rostrata and A anguilla if they both spawn in the Sargasso gyre. It needs some more thought and further explanation. Peter Wood
